Break Studios is looking for new freelance writers to add to their writing pool. The application process is very simple as is the writing process.

Break Studios offers $8.00 an article (with a potential increase in the future) for articles whose format is similar to blog posting and has a minimum of 250 words. The pay period is every two weeks, though the FAQ states it as every 45 days. See the information below for details on the requirements for this company.

What is Break Studios?
Break Studios creates valuable, compelling, quality content for our online community of highly popular and humorous websites, including Break.com, Made Man, Holy Taco, Cage Potato, Screen Junkies, and Chickipedia.

How long does the application process take?
After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation that we have received it immediately. Processing times for applications will vary. The process could take up to 72 hours, but we often approve applications on the same day.

Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email that will tell you whether or not you've been accepted to Break Studios. If accepted, you can login and start browsing work that is available to you. Additionally, there will be a checkbox available during the application process which can enable you to receive emails whenever work in your categories of expertise is available to you.

Can I apply more than once?
If you are not accepted the first time you apply then you cannot join Break Studios.

Are there fees to join Break Studios?
There is no charge to apply to or join Break Studios.

Do you enroll contributors who live outside of the United States?
No. Break Studios currently enrolls contributors that are either legal residents of the United States or United States citizens only.

I am not a citizen or legal resident of the United States, but I do have a PayPal email address. Can I be paid?
No. Break Studios is not available for non-U.S. citizens or non-U.S. residents at this time.

I'm under 18 years old. Can I be paid?
No. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in Break Studios. We're not able to send your payment to a third-party PayPal account (e.g. parents, guardian) either. Once you're 18, be sure to enroll in the program!

Are there agreements that I must enter into to participate in the Break Studios Program?
Yes. When you go through the Sign Up process, you will have to agree to Break Studios’ terms before you can submit your application.

Account and Payment
How do I get paid?
Break Studios website payments will be made through PayPal bi-weekly. You will either need to set up a personal account with PayPal or give us the information for an existing account during Sign Up. Once set up, we will deposit your payments directly into your personal PayPal account. For more information on PayPal, visit www.paypal.com. There is currently no charge to sign up for a personal, non-premium PayPal account.

When do I get paid?
Once per month, if there are amounts owed from work during the prior 30 days.

How can I change my Contact information?
You can change/update your Contact information by clicking on the "Manage Contact Info" link on your Dashboard (once you login). It is your obligation to keep your Contact information updated and current at all times in this form.

How can I change my PayPal email address?
To change your PayPal email address on Break Studios, log on to Break Studios and click the "Manage Contact Info" link in the Top Menu. You can update and confirm your PayPal email address here.

How can I change my profile information?
You can update your profile in Break Studios by clicking on the "Manage Profile Page" link on your Dashboard (once you login).

What are the tax requirements and implications of participation in the Break Studios Program?
You'll need to supply a Social Security or Tax ID number in order to get paid. Break Studios will have a 1099 form processed and sent to the IRS on your behalf. A copy of the 1099 form will also be sent to you. However, you must not be subject to backup withholdings in order to qualify for participation in the Break Studios Program. It is your obligation to keep your tax information updated and current at all times.

Am I responsible for paying taxes on my earnings through Break Studios?
Yes. It is your obligation to pay taxes on all earnings through Break Studios.

Can I be paid by check?
Break Studios pays its creators only through PayPal at this time. You must have a valid PayPal account to be paid.

Where can I find out how much I have earned or am owed?
For now, you can login to your Dashboard and go to the "Manage Articles" page. Once there, you can sort by "Status" and find all articles marked "Published," then add up the amounts to find the total amount earned.

Writers
What type of content do Break Studios Writers write?
Break Studios Writers write text articles that appear on brand name sites like MadeMan.com, HolyTaco.com, CagePotato.com, AllLeftTurns.com and ScreenJunkies.com.

What are the Style Guidelines for Break Studios?

How much will I be paid?
The payment you receive depends on the type of work you complete. The pay range for each article will vary depending on the nature of the work and the distribution it will be given. You can find the pay rate for each article in the "Claim Content" section of your Break Studios dashboard.

What topics can I write about?
Once you are approved, you will be able to login to your personal Dashboard page and browse our list of Titles/Topics. Break Studios will either suggest content assignments that match your skills or you can pick assignments for which you are qualified from our Topics list. You may also suggest your own Titles/Topics to write about. Please be sure to read our guidelines for suggesting titles in the Break Studios Submission Guidelines.
